Stash help

Selling direct

For selling to someone who already wants the book: a reply in your DMs, a regular at a show, a collector in a Discord. No marketplace, no commission, no waiting for a payout. You send a payment link, they pay by card, you ship. Needs a Seller plan or above. Setup takes about 15 minutes, once.

What this is, and what it is not

This is a payment link per book. It is not a public shop: there is no storefront page, no browsable catalog, no cart, and no custom domain. If you want somewhere for strangers to browse, list on a marketplace instead. See eBay seller setup or Marketplaces.

1. Connect payments

Go to Settings → Payments and start the setup. Payments run through Stripe, which handles the card details and the compliance checks. You will need your legal name and address, a bank account for payouts, and usually a tax ID.

Stripe asks the questions; Stash shows you where you are. The page reads Not started, In progress, or Active, and tells you exactly what Stripe is still waiting on. Money goes to your account, not ours.

2. Wait for Active

Checkout links stay unavailable until Stripe has finished checking your details and enabled charges. That is usually minutes, sometimes a day if documents need review. If the page still lists requirements, finish those first.

3. Create a link for a book

Open the item in Inventory, find Share a checkout link, and click Create link. The price is the book’s asking price, so set that first. You get a URL to paste anywhere: a DM, a comment, a text message.

One link per book, and it stays the same while it is active, so you can reuse it if the first buyer goes quiet.

4. The buyer pays

They land on a Stripe payment page with the book and the price, pay by card, and enter a shipping address (US and Canada). They do not need a Stash account. Afterwards they see a short confirmation telling them you will be in touch about shipping.

5. Record the sale and ship

Mark the book sold with Log a sale on the item, using the address from the payment, then buy the label in the same dialog if you have EasyPost connected. That closes the book’s listings on your other channels so it stops being offered twice.

What it costs

  • Stash takes nothing. No commission on a checkout link.
  • Stripe takes its card fee from each payment. Their rates are published and the same as any other Stripe seller.
  • Postage is yours. Charge for it or absorb it, but record what you actually paid or the profit number lies to you.

Gotchas

  • A link is live until you sell the book. Two people can pay for the same copy if you post the same link twice. Sell it, then stop sharing the link.
  • Confirm the address before shipping. Buyers move, and the address on the payment is the one they typed that day.
  • Chargebacks come back to you. Photograph the book and the packed parcel for anything expensive, and use tracking.
